If I HS have a beef with FW97, it is the text frames, which will appear when HS clicking in a none-type or typed area. Is this what you mean? Later I too have an issue with the text frames and I am now wondering if anybody out there has found a better way to deal with them. Katchmar Warren, when FW97 came out with Text Frames, this was one of the complaints. I have always made the frame visible, so I could overcome accidental activation be immediately clicking in the text area. It just takes getting used to it, like flushing the john. According to SW's tech support, (back when they still answered the phone), you can't turn them off! If you click accidentally, it's also hard to figure out which one to get rid of if you happen to get two in the same place. Speaking of hard to see, I wisk sometimes you could make format codes visible, as well. As far as the appearance of text frames is concerned, I got used to it and the extra click on occasion does not bother me. According to SW's tech support, (back when they still CB answered the phone), you can't turn them off! If you click accidentally, CB it's also hard to figure out which one to get rid of if you happen to get CB two in the same place. This can be very handy if your working on a document that someone else has also worked on. For example when my wife is typing, she sometimes will put a return just as she comes to the end of the page instead of letting FW wordwrap. If she wants me to add to it or reformat the document it can go all haywire. If I could see where the returns are it would be easy to adjust before reformating!. My favorite wordprocessor before FW was very good in this reguard. ProWrite is still very usable but no longer supported. Then you loose your HE document because the ram: comes back empty after a new start. HE Well with a static ram (RAD:) it is NOT lost. After the new Amiga start Snip... There is NO chance Softwood can be persuaded to do anything on FW and for Amiga. They may change their mind, when in is profitable. You know, making money, that's why they are in business. At first they didn't work out, but the problem seemed to be related to the printer driver in use. When trying a few different printer drivers within PageStream, some generated fully FW compatible EPS files, but others didn't. If you produce your EPS-files with a DTP software - try switching the printer (PPD) driver. Some of the output files should work with FW97. What software has generated the EPS files you're trying to use? Also, what has GhostScript got to do with it? As far as I know GhostScript only handles PostScript documents - not Encapsulated PostScript (EPS) files. FW cannot read PostScript files, so it may be as simple as that. However, I'm not that into using GhostScript - it may have som support for EPS too, in one way or another, that I'm not aware of. I hope this has been to some help. Feel free to post followups in case the problem stays. I do not know if FW can directly print a document with embedded EPS to a nonPostScript printer, I think that it can. However neither MS-Word nor WordPerfect on the PC or Mac can. I usually have FW write a PostScript file to ram:, then use postlj to print it is the background, since this is much faster. If Ghostscript can display the file, then FinalWriter usually can handle it. I know it is conditional, but I haven't really heard anything about v1.0 of Final Office as far as it's status and how it is selling. I own FW97 and have upgraded it from FW2.0 -> FW4.0 -> FW5.0 -> FW6.0 -> FW97... I think that is the sequence of events :) I think the $100.00 Final Office 1.0 is FANTASTIC for all the software you get. I hope they will make a 2.0 with upgraded versions of the software. First of all, Ghostscript is of course for viewing and printing of various formats but it is also able to convert and save files in different file types such as PS and EPS. I think I found the reason why sometime FW accepts an EPS file and sometimes not. Nethertheless your answers gave me the feel what to do. Some points to have an eye on what can happen (files means docs or pictures ...): - Ghostscript itself is not very carefully when it should work with large files. -> don't let Ghostscript to save too large files - some problems occurs when using Ghostscript's size options -> don't scale or cut files, better do that within FW - FW's eps load routine needs some more memory -> if you have not much RAM and you work for some hours at your computer better don't let FW to load (longer) EPS files. If it can't allocate memory it shows me a blank frame. If you follow these steps there should actually be no problems. My fault was that I had worked for hours at my machine and then I didn't had enough memory that was not longer in one piece (english=<fragmented>?). Some of you may ask what's the reason for doing that. If you load a text as EPS file you can easily move it on your document millimetre by millimetre, easily change its size (ok, FW can do that, too <g>) and gave him a frame. In fact you can use text blocks but if you need some more lines ? Or you use text frames, but if you want to increase the content's size by the same value ? Then try to load the .rtf file into the Amiga version of FinalWriter. If that does not work, try to load it into the Win95 version of FinalWriter on the PC, and then save in "Amiga FinalWriter" format. Unfortunately, I just tried this with a document that had a table. On a related theme, I needed to import an EPS file exported from the Design Works drawing program but FW would not accept it. But Professioanl Page did and so did the TVPaint Jr. which came bundled with my PicassoII. In TV Paint I saved the file as IFF which FW imported with no problem. I should note that I'm using the HappyDT program which allows numerous programs to use file types that they previously could not. But I still can't figure out why Design Works cannot export IFF files when it's supposed to. Does any have an IFF export filter for Design Works? I have experimented and to tried to import/export as RTF to FW (Ami), WPS (Works4.5 Win95), WPD (Word97) as well as into Pagestream with little success. I assume you have a real Amiga (Chinon) floppy, #FZ-357A (Some other companies sold them too). The Floppy uses the Gary, CIA's and possibly even paula to write its data to the disk. Since CIA controls timing, you might notice that if you put an accelerator in, the drive does R/W faster (I have an A600 with an HD floppy (really!), it is slower than my A1200-030 and 4000, which is slower still than my stock A3000 (the most reliable, it almost always works)). CrossDos (CFS) is very sensitive, especially since there is a big deal between 1.76 and 1.44 (MACs can read PeeCee floppies much easier, as both are 1.44). If you are multitasking while you R/W, you can get all kinds of probs, even on a faster machine (CIA timing, etc.). But even more likely, if your friends' PeeCees are older, and also more tolerant, but they might have dirty drives, or be out of alignment just a bit, even if new. As I said, CFS is very sensitive, as is the amiga drive (trying to cram more data than the 1.44), so I find the slightest thing will give your PC0:BAD error. I have found this, particularly with those BULK formatted disks. Strangely, I ALWAYS have better results when working with Mac and PC-OS diskettes from a CLI. Try it. Limit multitasking, and you will do even better. Some diskettes just won't read though (sigh). Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't Some you format as PC0: on the amiga won't read on a real PeeCee, either. I hope this helps you, It may never be perfect, so be patient. I also wonder about the adaptors that make a geniune PeeCee floppy drive work in an ami. I haven't tried one (yet) They might do better... The higher the density the thinner the tracks and the closer they are to each other. The tracks are established when the disk is formatted. The disk drive must place the read/write heads /almost /exactly on the track to read or write it. That's called alignment. The key word is /almost/, because nothing's ever perfect so certain tolerances are provided for. If the drive that formatted that disk is /slightly/ out of tolerance one way, a drive that is within tolerances may read it ok, but a drive that is at the other extreme won't. The read/write head alignment was adjustable on the old Commodore 1541. I've never heard of anyone doing it on Amiga floppies--a new drive may be cheaper. Regards -- DAVID L. I can read any IBM formatted PC diskettes (1.44), but this one was the first (as I said) which I couldn't read :( I got various explanations (thanx guys) so I think it is up to "bulk" formatted disk. So - if I can't read PC formatted disk from the first time I instert it in my Amiga, then there is no way to see it at all (if I understand well). Then I have to bring my diskette, formatted to PC format and copy files from that "unreadable" PC0: to my diskette. Am I right? Also I found that reading even 9KB text (from PC formatted diskette) on my Amiga needs around 20 seconds (!) to show up! Really _terrible_ slooow, but I can't do nothing. Eh... Do you have something like this in your User-Startup file: C:AddBuffers PC0: 100 I don't know if you need 100 buffers but that is just an example. There was no standard (MS-DOS) boot block on the disk. Some times there was a virus on the disk. But now it's under construction (since 30.12.1998). Eh... You should use QuietTD for quicker access to NON-AmigaOFS/FFS-Disks. It is part of the Diskspare Archive. And may be it helps to use a better caching system for floppies like smartchache as I use for many years now. And you can set up the buffers on PC0/PC1 dosdrivers to 100 or more.
